description Introduction: The use of antibiotics is very common in the dental consultation for the post-surgical patient and in the patient who will undergo some invasive dental treatment, but generally the prescription of antibiotics by the dentist is based on a diagnosis of infection, his experience clinically and are commonly used empirically. But resistance to these drugs is now one of the most serious threats to global health. And, the use of antibiotics is becoming more and more frequent, due to this, certain bacteria have become drug resistant. Objective: The purpose of this research was to determine the level of knowledge of the students of the dental faculty of the Antonio Nariño University, Bucaramanga headquarters, about the use of antibiotics in clinical practice and their mechanisms of action (2019). Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out, involving 85 students from fifth to tenth semester of dentistry who were doing clinical practices. For this purpose, a survey was applied to the students of the faculty who, on the day it was applied, were available during the clinical shift and had the time indicated for the development of the survey, which consisted of 16 questions in total. Closed method questions were handled, which were divided into two groups: the first were questions associated with mechanisms of action and the second were questions related to clinical management. Results: A percentage of correct answers was observed by groups of questions: 39% regarding questions associated with mechanisms of action and 46% regarding those associated with clinical practice. Determining with the analysis carried out that the level of knowledge about antibiotics of the students was low since it did not exceed 60% Conclusions: It was observed that the general average of knowledge on antibiotics of the students from fifth to tenth semester of clinics is low since it did not exceed 60%. It is necessary to reinforce both the basic knowledge and during the development of the practicals, in order to strengthen the knowledge of the students of the Antonio Nariño University, Bucaramanga headquarters, on the topic addressed.

Pero la resistencia a estos medicamentos es ahora una de las amenazas más graves para la salud mundial. Y, el uso de antibióticos se hace cada vez de manera más frecuente, debido a esto, ciertas bacterias se han vuelto farmacorresistentes. Objetivo: El propósito de esta investigación fue determinar el nivel de conocimiento de los estudiantes de la facultad de odontología de la universidad Antonio Nariño sede Bucaramanga sobre el uso de antibióticos en la práctica clínica y sus mecanismos de acción (2019). Metodología: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo de tipo transversal, donde Participaron 85 estudiantes de quinto a decimo semestre de odontología que se encontraban realizando las practicas clínicas. Para tal efecto, se aplicó una encuesta a los estudiantes de la facultad que al día que fue aplicada estaban disponibles durante el turno clínico y disponían del tiempo indicado para el desarrollo de la encuesta, la cual consto de 16 preguntas en total. Se manejaron preguntas de método cerrado, las cuales se dividieron en dos grupos el primero preguntas asociadas a mecanismos de acción y el segundo fueron preguntas relacionadas al manejo clínico. Resultados: Se observó un porcentaje de aciertos por grupos de preguntas de: 39%en cuanto a las preguntas asociadas a los mecanismos de acción y de 46% sobre las asociadas a la práctica clínica. Determinándose con el análisis realizado que el nivel de conocimiento sobre antibióticos de los estudiantes fue bajo ya que no superó el 60%. Conclusiones: Se observó que el promedio general de conocimiento sobre antibióticos de los estudiantes de quinto a decimo semestre de clínicas es bajo ya que no superó el 60%.
