Summary:OBJECTIVE: To identify alterations in the emotional state in patients with acquired visual impairment. METHODOLOGY: A review was carried out bibliography, which included educational, clinical and informative material on the topic; documents such as scientific articles, theoretical reviews or clinical cases, web pages of related organizations and literature of human sciences and low vision with a publication no older than 10 years, available in databases data from the Antonio Nariño University, ElSevier, E-Libro, SciELO, ScienceDirect, Sage Knowledge, PubMed and Google Scholar. RESULTS: The findings in people with acquired visual impairment, indicated affections at an emotional level, as in his feeling of the situation; which is expressed through different phases or episodes, being the result of the process of adaptation to disability visual. Depressive symptomatology was identified as the greatest consequence that derives from the emotional alterations manifested in said process which, in some way, affects and has repercussions on their quality and lifestyle, with suicide being the most extreme risk when suffering from it CONCLUSION: It is of great importance to have present the characteristics of a patient with visual impairment, not only at the dysfunctional, but psychological, because the emotional part is altered and they can Difficulties arise in achieving an optimal adaptation and rehabilitation process.
