The article proposes a meditation on how this paradox contradicts the purpose of model-making itself during the formation years and, at the same time, why it leaves the materialization of the object in practical life to the employment of a dexterity that was never learned in school.El modelo a escala sigue siendo—a pesar de la masificación de las tecnologías digitales—el medio de representación tridimensional más solicitado a los estudiantes en las facultades de arquitectura de Colombia; sin embargo, su concepción netamente moderna (blanca, limpia, pura, ideal) se opone a la enseñanza de una teoría de diseño que proclama tener en cuenta el lugar, el contexto, la tradición y la tecnología propios de la cultura local, sin duda coloridos, pintorescos, poéticos y artesanales.
