El proyecto comenzó con análisis y discusión teórica que llevó al desarrollo de un instrumento de evaluación desarrollado por los autores, posteriormente dicho instrumento fue aplicado en una tesis de maestría1 para la evaluación de un desarrollo habitacional dentro de la Zona Metropolitana de Guadalajara. El artículo propone la construcción de un modelo de evaluación de eficacia tecnológica ambientalmente racional aplicado al primer Desarrollo Urbano Integralmente Sustentable (DUIS) de vivienda situado en el área metropolitana de Guadalajara, que permita la generación de recomendaciones tecnológicas ambientalmente racionales de infraestructura hidráulica en dicho proyecto. El modelo contempla en su análisis dimensiones ambientales, tecnológicas, urbanas y de participación ciudadana, proponiéndolo como un insumo de planeación urbana que permita visualizar de manera inicial el manejo integrado a nivel local y ambientalmente racional del agua para los DUIS.
