description Introduction: The objective of the study was to see the relationship between self-esteem and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in a sample of children who began orthodontic treatment at dental clinics in the city of Bogotá, Colombia. Materials and methods: correlational study in children aged 11 to 14 years (98 women, 102 men) to whom the questionnaire (CPQ11-14) and the Rosenberg self-esteem scale were applied. Data will be analyzed with SPSS software (version 26, SPSS, Chicago, Illinois). The individuals were classified according to the DAI dental aesthetic index. They were calculated for the total CPQ11-14 and its domains, as well as for the Rosenberg scale, adding the response codes for each element. Data analyzes include descriptive statistics, bivariate analysis, Pearson's correlation tests, and multiple regression models. Results: Children with low self-esteem had greater difficulties for total CPQ11-14 than children with high and medium self-esteem; finding differences in the three self-esteem groups. Children with low self-esteem had the greatest difficulties in the ICD. The combined model explained 18% of the total variance in CPQ11-14. (Adjusted R2 0.18). The explanatory power was highest for the FL domain (adjusted R2 0.24) and the lowest for the OS domain (adjusted R2 0.17). For the explanation of the total CPQ11-14 and for the OS and FL domains, the contribution was mainly attributed to the DAI, being highly significant (P <0.000). For the explanation of the EW and SW domains, the greatest contribution was for AE. Conclusions: self-esteem and malocclusion present a moderate association with the quality of life related to oral health, in children aged 11 to 14 years who seek orthodontic treatment in consultations for the first time

Materials and methods: correlational study in children aged 11 to 14 years (98 women, 102 men) to whom the questionnaire (CPQ11-14) and the Rosenberg self-esteem scale were applied. Data will be analyzed with SPSS software (version 26, SPSS, Chicago, Illinois). The individuals were classified according to the DAI dental aesthetic index. They were calculated for the total CPQ11-14 and its domains, as well as for the Rosenberg scale, adding the response codes for each element. Data analyzes include descriptive statistics, bivariate analysis, Pearson's correlation tests, and multiple regression models. Results: Children with low self-esteem had greater difficulties for total CPQ11-14 than children with high and medium self-esteem; finding differences in the three self-esteem groups. Children with low self-esteem had the greatest difficulties in the ICD. The combined model explained 18% of the total variance in CPQ11-14. (Adjusted R2 0.18). The explanatory power was highest for the FL domain (adjusted R2 0.24) and the lowest for the OS domain (adjusted R2 0.17). For the explanation of the total CPQ11-14 and for the OS and FL domains, the contribution was mainly attributed to the DAI, being highly significant (P <0.000). For the explanation of the EW and SW domains, the greatest contribution was for AE. Conclusions: self-esteem and malocclusion present a moderate association with the quality of life related to oral health, in children aged 11 to 14 years who seek orthodontic treatment in consultations for the first timeEl objetivo del estudio fue examinar la relación entre la autoestima y la calidad de vida relacionada con la salud oral (OHRQoL) en una muestra de niños que iniciaban tratamiento ortodóntico de clínicas odontológicas de la ciudad de Bogotá, Colombia.Materiales y Métodos: estudio correlacional en niños de 11 a 14 años (98 femenino, 102 masculinos) en quienes se aplicó el cuestionario de (CPQ11-14) y la escala de autoestima de Rosenberg. Los datos se analizaron utilizando el software SPSS (versión 26, SPSS, Chicago, Illinois). Los individuos fueron clasificados según el índice estético dental DAI. Se calcularon, las puntuaciones para el CPQ11-14 total y sus dominios, así como para la escala de Rosemberg, sumando los códigos de respuesta de cada ítem. Los análisis de datos incluyeron estadísticas descriptivas, análisis bivariado, pruebas de correlación Pearson y modelos de regresión múltiple. Resultados: Los niños con autoestima baja tuvieron puntuaciones para el CPQ11-14 total más altas que los niños con autoestima alta y media; encontrándose diferencias significativas en los tres grupos de autoestima. Los niños con autoestima baja tuvieron las puntuaciones más altas en el DAI. El modelo combinado explicó el 18% de la varianza total en CPQ11-14. (R2 ajustado 0.18). El poder explicativo fue más alto para el dominio FL (R2 ajustado 0.24) y el más bajo para el dominio OS (R2 ajustado 0.17). Para la explicación del CPQ11-14 total y para los dominios OS y FL la contribución se atribuyó principalmente al DAI, siendo altamente significativo (P<0.000). Para la explicación de los dominios EW y SW, la mayor contribución fue para la AE. Conclusiones: La autoestima y la maloclusión presentan tienen un impacto en la calidad de vida relacionada con salud oral, en niños de 11 a 14 años que buscan tratamiento de ortodoncia en consultas de primera vez.Especialista en OrtodonciaEspecializaciónPresencialspaUniversidad Antonio NariñoEspecialización en OrtodonciaFacultad de OdontologíaBogotá - CircunvalarAutoestimaCalidad de vida, Salud oralCPQ 11-14Escala de RosenbergÍndice de necesidad de tratamiento de ortodoncia (DAI)AdolescentSelf-esteemQuality of lifeOral healthCPQ 11-14Rosenberg scaleOrthodontic treatment need index (DAI)Impacto de la autoestima en la calidad de vida relacionada con salud bucal, en niños de 11 a 14 años con maloclusiónTrabajo de grado (Pregrado y/o Especialización)http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_7a1fhttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85ORIGINAL2020Acta.pdf2020Acta.pdfActa de sustentación Impacto de la autoestimaapplication/pdf136027https://repositorio.uan.edu.co/bitstreams/9b93ab4b-5504-4d05-a404-963c356ca346/download8b574835026e1fe506667e61c171ea67MD512020JorgeAndrésAgudeloGaitán.pdf2020JorgeAndrésAgudeloGaitán.pdfArtículoapplication/pdf305923https://repositorio.uan.edu.co/bitstreams/bba35b99-8c61-4189-a35e-161d56cf8b29/download247e554122faadf22d3b36dfd9225fcaMD522020AutorizaciondeAutores1.pdf2020AutorizaciondeAutores1.pdfDerechos de autor Johanna Molinaapplication/pdf517578https://repositorio.uan.edu.co/bitstreams/745ad0ba-ce8b-4e42-8aee-64338b32bdae/download485d4421b5922b5e14d677f575ea8cadMD532020AutorizaciondeAutores2.pdf2020AutorizaciondeAutores2.pdfDerechos de autos Jorge Agudeloapplication/pdf867060https://repositorio.uan.edu.co/bitstreams/387575e8-0225-47f8-b10d-6f90803ff35d/downloadade77822c5d87c9eb08b39a9aed7ccf3MD542020AutorizaciondeAutores3.pdf2020AutorizaciondeAutores3.pdffirma autores jeysa riosapplication/pdf400515https://repositorio.uan.edu.co/bitstreams/569e36e1-9f2b-47b5-919a-a8092bb2298e/download10632b106a9ff91b41eaf01793f572d8MD552020AutorizaciondeAutores4.pdf2020AutorizaciondeAutores4.pdfsanabi juan manuelapplication/pdf302458https://repositorio.uan.edu.co/bitstreams/777b457e-ca8a-47a4-b4cd-91b82dc2ee6c/downloadc36087596bb26f442a7950ae2b38ff1bMD562020AutorizaciondeAutores5.pdf2020AutorizaciondeAutores5.pdfsanabi liseth torresapplication/pdf245387https://repositorio.uan.edu.co/bitstreams/77669824-64fb-4de6-9ce6-119d4fb6dac6/downloadae349ca12bb3ca52b1f64e66510cd94bMD57CC-LICENSElicense_rdflicense_rdfapplication/rdf+xml;
