Therefore the hyaluronic acid, can provide favorable conditions for growth and tissue regeneration, thanks to these characteristics that its use has extended to different areas of medicine such as: orthopedics, ophthalmology, dermatology, aesthetics and more recently in dentistry. It is important to clarify that there are periodontal conditions in which hyaluronic acid can be used to promote changes in the periodontium in an optimal and positive way. Objective: To realize a narrative review of the literature about the use of hyaluronic acid in periodontics in articles published between the years 2008- 2020. Methodology: It consisted in the search of articles in English in different databases like Pubmed, Medline, Elseiver, and Ebsco, which were related to the topic of hyaluronic acid use in periodontics. For this purpose, Boolean descriptors were used, and later the collection and discard phases of the articles obtained were executed to carry out the appropriate analysis of the results. Results: Most of the articles agree that hyaluronic acid generates benefits in periodontics for the treatment of gingivitis, periodontitis and periodontal surgery. However, the lack of standardized protocols makes it advisable to perform more studies on this subject. Conclusion: Topical application of hyaluronic acid brings additional clinical benefits like reduction in bleeding and inflammation rate, reduction in probing depth, improvement in insertion level when used as an adjunct tosurgical and non-surgical periodontal therapy. In periodontal surgery it helps improve the appearance of the tissue, color, reduces pain and burning, in addition to bringing benefits in interpapillary filling and gingival recessions that help periodontal esthetics.Introducción: El ácido hialurónico es un polisacárido constituido por unidades repetidas de disacáridos, que representa así a un glicosaminoglicano el cual participa en varios procedimientos biológicos importantes como: la mediación de la señalización celular, la regulación de la celular, proliferación y la diferenciación celular. Por tanto el ácido hialurónico, puede proporcionar condiciones favorables para el crecimiento y regeneración de tejidos, gracias a estas características que su uso se ha extendido a diferentes ramas de la medicina como: ortopedia, oftalmología, dermatología, estética y más recientemente en odontología. Es importante aclarar que existen condiciones periodontales en las cuales se puede hacer uso del ácido hialurónico para promover cambios en el periodonto de manera óptima y positiva. Objetivo: Realizar una revisión narrativa de la literatura acerca del uso de ácido hialurónico en periodoncia en artículos publicados entre los años 2008- 2020. Metodología: consistió en la búsqueda de artículos en inglés en las diferentes bases de datos como Pubmed, Medline, Elseiver, y Ebsco, los cuales estuvieran relacionados con el tema de uso de ácido hialurónico en periodoncia. Para ello se usó descriptores boleanos, posteriormente se ejecutan las fases de recolección y descarte, de los artículos obtenidos para efectuar el debido análisis de resultados. Resultados: la mayoría de los artículos coinciden en que el ácido hialuronico genera beneficios en peridoconcia para el tratamiento de gingivitis, periodontitis y cirugía periodontal. Sin embargo la falta de protocolos estadarizados hace que se recomienda realizar más estudios acerca del tema. Conclusión: la aplicación tópica de ácido hialurónico trae beneficios clínicos adicionales como reducción en el índice de sangrado e inflmacion, reducción en la profundidad del sondaje, mejoría en el nivel de inserción cuando se usa como complemento de la terapia periodontal quirúrgica y no quirúrgica.
