| Summary: | Objective: To evaluate the level of satisfaction with old dental prosthesis and the factors that influence this condition in the elderly that attend the dental clinics of the Universidad Santo Tomas.Material and methods: Sixty three were elderly women and men; 50 years and more, of both genders that required oral rehabilitation, during the first semester of the 2005. Variables were related clinics, of perception of the functionality of the dental prosthesis and perception of the individuals with the prosthesis.Results: When analyzing the relationship of the clinical variables in regard satisfaction related of the dental prosthesis a relationship marginally significant among the satisfaction with the prosthesis and the change of the same ones to be old (p = 0.051). When evaluating the association among the variables of perception of functionality with satisfaction, they were differences statistically for the variables that impede to feed (p=0.004), to speak (p<0.001), falls when laughs (p=0.007), impede to kiss, (p=0.003), to taste (p=0.001), moves when eat some meals (p=0.031), for to analyze the motive of the change, it was found that 75% of non satisfied people, had changed them because it affected them the gum.Conclusion: The functionality of the dental prosthesis, the feelings respect to dental lost, the adaptation in the tissue periodontal and the experiences with the dentist are factors that determine the satisfaction of the older adult with the dental prosthesis. |
