The article is a contribution to the understanding the process of construction and transformation of professional identity of the soccer player in Brazil. Both athletes' good and bad outcomes in the search of professional recognition are our path to the road of that analysis and scrutiny. Grounded in Habermas theory, we scrutinize sports - soccer in particular - as a social sector overrun by the systemic order and ruled by money and power. Since soccer, as the sport of crowds has been colonized by the "instrumental reason", it has been fueled by strong marketing appeal and as such brings about the world of life (culture, society and identity) as well as the twisted dreams and expectations of thousands of individuals and of their families. Accordingly, the life stories and examples brought about by this text hint at the intertwined relationships between the world of soccer, the dreams of a successful career, the actual possibility of failure and the construction of psychosocial identities within that "surprise box" which soccer seems to be. |

El artículo contribuye a la comprensión del proceso de formación y transformación de la identidad profesional del jugador de fútbol en Brasil. La investigación de los caminos de los atletas en la búsqueda de reconocimiento profesional, sean los caminos de buenos como los de malos resultados, son nuestra vía de acceso para este análisis y reflexión. Bajo ese propósito y basados en la teoría de Habermas, planteamos una reflexión sobre el deporte, en particular sobre el fútbol, como un segmento social apropiado por el orden sistémico, gobernado por el dinero y el poder, que por ser colonizado estratégicamente por la razón instrumental, ese deporte de multitudes, de atractivo comercial fuerte, trae al mundo de la vida (cultura, sociedad e identidad), los sueños y expectativas distorsionadas de miles de personas y sus familias. Por ese motivo, las historias de vida y ejemplos del texto, sirven como indicadores de las relaciones sociales entre el "mundo de la pelota", el sueño de una carrera exitosa, la posibilidad real de frustración y la formación y transformación de la identidad psicosocial dentro de la caja de sorpresas que es el fútbol. O artigo pretende contribuir para a compreensão do processo de formação e transformação da identidade profissional do atleta de futebol no Brasil. Os caminhos e descaminhos percorridos por atletas em busca do reconhecimento profissional são nossa via de acesso para as análise e reflexões. Com esse propósito, aludindo à teoria habermasiana, explicitamos no texto uma reflexão sobre o Esporte, em específico o Futebol, como mais um segmento social apropriado pela Ordem Sistêmica, regida pelo dinheiro e pelo poder, pois ao ser colonizado estrategicamente pela razão instrumental, o esporte das multidões, de forte apelo mercadológico, traz consigo para o Mundo da Vida (cultura, sociedade e identidades) os sonhos e expectativas distorcidas de milhares de indivíduos e suas famílias. Nesse sentido, as histórias de vida e os exemplos trazidos neste texto, servem como indicadores sociais das correlações existentes entre o mundo da bola, o sonho de uma carreira de sucesso, a real possibilidade de frustração nessa empreitada e a formação das identidades psicossociais em meio a essa "caixinha de surpresas" que é o futebol.
