Summary:This paper purposes an analysis about the Agreement for discretion signed in 1999 by 32 media directors "to elevate the quality level and responsibility in the coverage and broadcasting of violent facts". This article analyses the factors that impede the Agreement for discretion from generating real changes in journalistic informative practices. This article presents a model (Lemieux, 2000) that explains the variables that influence the production of information discourse by journalists and the mass media.
