LOS MERCADOS EN LAS CIUDADES. LAS POTENCIALIDADES DE UN APARENTE ANACRONISMO

Hoy se hace necesaria una revisión. Por una parte, la centralidad concedida a las actividades productivas, entendidas como producción de bienes tangibles, ha inducido a errores significativos de política urbana. Por otra parte, aunque nadie duda de la importancia de los nuevos formatos comerciales, la experiencia muestra que tienen ciclos de auge yobsolescencia relativamente breves, mientras que los mercados han demostrado en la mayoría de los casos una capacidad de pervivencia y de resurgencia notables. No parece que estén definitivamente condenados a desaparecer, cuando existen suficientes experienciasque van en sentido claramente contrario. Entre ellas el caso de Barcelona tiene algunas singularidades notables.ABSTRACTToday a revision is made necessary. On the one hand, the centrality granted to the productive activities, understood them like production of tangible goods, has induced to significant errors of urban policy. On the other hand, although nobody doubt of the importance of the new commercial formats, the experience shows that they have cyclesof relatively brief peak and obsolescence, whereas the markets have demonstrated inmost of the cases a capacity of remarkable prevalence and reappearance. It does notseem that definitively they are condemned to disappear, when sufficient experiences existthat go in clearly opposite sense. Among them the case of Barcelona has some remarkable singularities.
