Description
Summary:Purpose: This project was carried out to compare the cleansing effect of manual cleaning and ultrasonic cleaning on endodontic files.Material and Methods: An experimental design was applied on four groups of treatment: O: New files, 1: Dirty files, 2: Files with manual cleaning, and 3: Files with ultrasonic cleaning. Each group was made up of 40 files and weight in grams was defined as the unit of analysis. Measurements were made in duplicate to evaluate the reproducibility of the procedure. Manual cleaning was done using 0.25% Sodium Hypo chlorite, soap and water and thorough brushing. Ultrasonic cleaning was carried out with the Biosonic UC50 with UC30 enzymatic liquid on 21mm Maillefer Floxifile K#25 endodontic files. A one-way variance analysis (Anova) was applied to analyze reproducibility and the comparison between the groups was made applying a Wilcoxon test with a=0.05.Results: No significant differences were detected between the duplicates (p > 0.72). Statistically significant differences were detected between the groups 0 and 1. Similar results were found comparing the weight between groups 2 and 3 (p<0.0001) with a lower average weight and dispersion for the group with ultrasonic cleaning. Conclusions: This data showed a significant difference and the better cleansing effect of ultrasonic cleaning in comparison to manual cleaning.
