This work concludes that is fundamental to broaden the debate about the concept, in an environment that is related with the capabilities and labour performances of the future accountants.El documento aborda los diferentes aspectos relacionados con el concepto de “competencia”, el cual, es el eje articulador alrededor del cual se estructuran los diferentes programas de formación en educación superior, y particularmente en Contaduría Pública. La reflexión pone de presente la dificultad para la comprensión del término, y la inconsistencia de su uso en el diseño de los diferentes currículos en Contaduría.
