Description
Summary:Root resorption is a side effect of orthodontic treatment. There are factors involve in this phenomenon such as excessive applying forces, root anatomy or genetic predisposition. However, there are not enough literature about the orthodontic treatment on patients with severe root resorption as a previous finding. The purpose of this report is explain to the clinician this pathology, and a possible orthodontic treatment. We present a several cases with previous short root length of the upper central incisors. The orthodontic treatment requires the extraction of four bicuspids to improve the functional lip gap and facial aesthetics. The patients finish the orthodontic treatment with oclusal stability, functional relationship and good aesthetics without detriment of the root condition of the upper incisors. Patients with a history of reduced radicular size can undergo orthodontic treatment with closure of spaces and incisive retraction, through a correct diagnosis, efficient biomechanics and the use of light forces, without worsening the severity of root length and dental vitality.
