The bacterial plate adheres to any hard surface of oral cavity, even on the surface of the dental prosthesis, in form similar to the observed thing in the natural teeth; the removal of the dental plate is essential for the maintenance of soft oral weaves, avoiding in addition the formation to spots and/or the halitosis. The reproducibility of an index that allows evaluating the hygiene of the dental prosthesis constitutes in an aspect fundamental and one of the initial operations with the intention to implement a promotional and preventive program oriented to the population with dental prosthesis.Los pacientes usuarios de prótesis deben recibir un programa de control que permita al odontólogo monitorear el estado de las mismas, así como su condición de salud oral. Uno de los aspectos más importantes dentro de este proceso, es la evaluación de la higiene oral; sin embargo, a pesar de que existen índices para tal fin, no se han implementado en forma efectiva en los pacientes con el propósito de monitorear el estado de higiene de las prótesis dentales. La placa bacteriana se adhiere a cualquier superficie dura de cavidad oral, incluso sobre la superficie de las prótesis dentales, en forma similar a lo observado en los dientes naturales; la remoción de la placa dental es esencial para el mantenimiento de los tejidos orales blandos, evitando además la formación de manchas y/o la halitosis. La reproducibilidad de un índice que permite evaluar la higiene de las prótesis dentales se constituye en un aspecto fundamental y una de las acciones iniciales con el propósito de implementar un programa promocional y preventivo orientado a la población usuaria de prótesis dentales.[Concha S.
