Esta monografía es el resultado de un trabajo de investigación social concentrado en el municipio de Puente Nacional Santander, que busca comprender el inicio y el desarrollo de la violencia política bipartidista en dicho lugar. Desde el inicio de la conformación del proceso de Estado-Nación Colombiano a mediados del siglo XIX, la violencia política ha sido, como lo señalaría Orlado Fals Borda, “carácter estructurante de la vida política colombiana”, que, en otras palabras, señala el papel predominante e influyente que ha tenido dicho fenómeno en el país. Casi todas las contiendas y contradicciones entre los diferentes grupos sociales locales regionales y nacionales se han solucionado por medio de la violencia física. Sólo durante el siglo XIX se cuentan por lo menos 50 guerras civiles regionales y más de 13 nacionales, todas motivadas por el control de los territorios por parte grupos de poder locales, regionales y nacionales, control de las burocracias también locales, regionales y nacionales, conflictos por la tierra, conflictos propios de cada espacio local, pero todos ellos cobijados bajo la figura del sistema bipartidista liberal-conservador. |

Since the beginning of the formation of the Colombian Nation-State process in the mid-19th century, political violence has been, as Orlado Fals Borda would point out, “a structuring character of Colombian political life”, which, in other words, points out the predominant and influential role that this phenomenon has had in the country. Almost all the contests and contradictions between the different local, regional and national social groups have been solved through physical violence. During the 19th century alone, there are at least 50 regional civil wars and more than 13 national wars, all motivated by the control of the territories by local, regional and national power groups,
