Description
Summary:The ants of the Atta cephalotes genre, born in the tropical and subtropical regions, are reported as one of the most important plagues in South America and Colombia. & e handling of this insect has been based on the use of chemical insecticides. Nevertheless, their low specifi city, high toxicity, unfavorable effects for the atmosphere, and the generation of resistant insects, have made the experts consider the use of bio-controls for their handling. & is document reports some macro and microscopic studies of the culture and growth of the enthomopathogen Metarhizium anisopliae fungus, whose effectiveness has been studied for more than a century. These studies allow the identifi cation of the fungus in addition to the tests of viability and pathogenicity of a biological insecticide for the control of this ant.
