Description
Summary:This research seeks to investigate what are the theories and strategies used by sports psychologists to promote the psychological well-being of the athletes involved. The study was conducted with a sample of 6 psychologists from the city of Cali, specialized in sports, at the Universidad del Bosque (Bogotá), aged between 33 and 45 years, and work experience between 3 and 15 years. For the data collection, a semi-structured interview was designed and applied to the participants, with the aim of reviewing with what strategies the psychologist works in relation to psychological well-being. Among the results were found by psychologists, aspects that are important as: mental strength, cognitive skills, physical abilities, decision making, and that allow establish standards that describe the image they have of the high performance athlete and of the psychological accompaniment that this requires. Likewise, it is observed that, among the strategies used by the interviewees, there is a disintegrating tendency of the athlete subject, where the analysis and intervention of each aspect of the person is carried out in an isolated manner. With studies like the present one, it is expected to make proposals for integrative intervention that facilitate the performance and likewise, favor the quality of life and to recognize more the personal and social aspects of the athletes.
