Summary:In Colombia, scrap metal is a well-paid and growing business but is still unknown among different sectors. Scrap is recognized as a scarce and strategic raw material, with the capacity to be recycled an infinite number of times without losing its basic properties. In order to carry out the recycling of these metals, the scrap must be sorted and properly compacted the residues of these non-ferrous materials, they are easy to handle as they are light, do not burn, do not rust, can be transported without major inconvenience, In addition, they are priced, profitable and provide a source of income and occupation for unskilled labour. Non-ferrous metals are used in manufacturing as complementary elements of ferrous metals; they are also very useful as pure or alloyed materials, which for their physical properties. Some companies have as their main activity the transformation of the raw material (aluminum) for making any type of part and other companies are dedicated to the smelting of aluminum obtained from the recycling of cans or packaging, but there are almost no companies involved in reprocessing aluminum slag as a main activity.
