Description
Summary:In recent years, different technologies and methods have emerged to decontaminate the soils and recover the affected ecosystems, one of the methods is liming, which consists of incubating the soil with calcium carbonate, this methodology aims to reduce acidity, that is, increase the pH of the soil to a pH that allows the growth of organic and plant matter. This liming has the objective of displacing and neutralizing the aluminum and magnesium, responsible for the acidity and that is present in the soil, which serves as an amendment to the previous objective and agronomic techniques that serve to eliminate, retain, or reduce toxicity of soil pollutants. The main toxic elements found in mining soils are heavy metals, these are generally found in low concentrations in the environment, however, with anthropogenic activities, such as mining, these levels have increased, thus causing contamination of it. Because heavy metals in the soil are leached into surface and groundwater, they can make these aqueous bodies dangerous and toxic to humans. This degree work aims to control the pH of a gold mining soil sample as a means of remediation of mining soils.
