Summary: | This article presents a detailed discussion by the Hydrometrics Group of Cali and Popayán on the average speed equation of riverbeds in varied flow conditions and its applications in some interesting topics in the theory of Conservative Solute Transport. As it can be noted, the foundations of this theory do not follow a traditional approach which initiates with a differential equation to give a description of the point. It rather takes Prigogine’s proposal as a base, which prefers a non-local description, grounded in notions of thermodynamics. The coincidence between the theoretical models and the experimental curves for this approach and its simplicity compared to other approximations make this theory an efficient option to describe the pollution processes in natural riverbeds. |
