Description
Summary:The relationship between the protagonist of the Middle East oral tradition, Scheherazade, and Western values, human rights, contribute to the reflection of the political configuration from femininity in the Arab world. Scheherazade and fundamental rights fracture the ideological barrier imposed by the image of “the West” in the East. Mernissi is the curator showing rigorously how Arab women face and subvert the macho values of Eastern society. Scheherazade and Mernissi teach women the need to fight for recognition. Thus, Scheherazade allows compatibility between the Oriental world and democracy. Nevertheless it requires real women, of flesh and blood, to realize dignity, freedom and equality in the Arab world.
