Summary: | Due to the increase of the female prisoner population in Colombia's prisons, the knowledge about their living conditions, the mental, emotional and family implications that according to some investigations result from the separation of ties such as mother-children, and finally taking into account the social role assigned to women in the Colombian context as the mother given to their children and the responsible for the upbringing, it was considered relevant and necessary to inquire about the maternity experience and the child-rearing exercise that takes place between mothers with children at a distance in the maximum security prison and penitentiary complex of Jamundí - Valle del Cauca (COJAM). This qualitative research had an exploratory development and a narrative design, as it delved into a topic not explored with priority and priority was given to the life history of the participating subjects, using as an instrument of in training the semi-structured interview for the subsequent creation of two experiential stories. The results show that maternity and the practice of remote upbringing is exercised with the support of media such as caregivers, electronic media and objects elaborated within the prison, which become allies for communication and the transmission of norms, rules, beliefs, affections and care; In addition, it was evidenced that the passage through the prison caused in the subjects a state of symbolic death, result of the limit experience of the prison confinement, generating later transformations and reconciliation of the subjects with the world, with their role as mothers and with the transmission of parenting practices. |
