Summary:The beef is produced through economic activity called livestock, which is part of the agricultural sector contributes 11.83% of national GDP for the year of 20141, and carries a cumulative 16.75% so far for 2015. Also , livestock participates with 1.6%, 20% and 53% on domestic growth, agriculture and livestock sector, respectively. In Caqueta, where the present study is conducted, the percentage contribution of livestock activity during 2011 was 14.91% 3, which represents the second activity of greater participation in the economy of the department. According to the indicators of the department, for 2012 the total inventory of cattle heads was 1,339,828, of whom 265,665 were animals under one year between females and males, 726,642 females older than one year and older males to 347 521 year. According to the Ministry of Agriculture's Department Caquetá' (2013), 2,052,459 hectares dedicated to cattle ranching, with 660,476 hectares established in tecnificadas 1,342,546 hectares meadows and pastures in traditional distributed in the 16 municipalities that make calculated the local authority, with a significant increase in the areas used in cutting grass, forage crops and increased areas recently seen in silvopastoral systems.
