Description
Summary:The present investigative article has as objective to know how the social representations of old age that have young and average means of the city of Cali, and the self-concept of the elderly are related. For this, a mixed and descriptive type research process was carried out, in which two instruments were elaborated and used, the first a questionnaire of social representations of old age, applied to 50 people among young people and middle adults, and the second was the self-concept questionnaire applied to 10 non-institutionalized older adults. As results, a great divergence was found between the information thrown by the two samples, in front of the social representations a strong tendency was found to be these of a negative character, in the different aspects in which it was investigated (the demographic, social, health and the psychological) and on the other hand, in relation to self-concept, very positive results were found linked to the way elderly adults see and conceive themselves in different areas of their lives.
