Description
Summary:Introduction: Exclusive breastfeeding is the main food that can be given to children, since it contributes to the correct immunological, hormonal and nutritional development in children under six months. It is one of the most important factors for good growth and development of children, which is being abandoned more and more by mothers as it is associated with different types of variables. Objective: To evaluate the factors associated with abandoning the practice of exclusive breastfeeding in nursing mothers in Cartagena during the year 2023. Methodology: Cross-sectional analytical study. The population was mothers with children under 6 months belonging to one of the ICBF programs in the city of Cartagena called Child Development in a Family Environment (DIMF). A sample of 98 mothers was taken randomly chosen from the database of mothers enrolled in the aforementioned program. Results: According to age, mothers (< = 19 years) practiced EBF in a lower proportion, while the age group (20-35 years) reported the highest number of EBF practices. It was reported that multiparous mothers practiced breastfeeding in a higher percentage (79.41%). Regarding self efficacy, it was reported that the vast majority had a high level of self-efficacy for breastfeeding (85.94%) and that (65.3%) did not do EBF. Conclusion: It was evident that age and parity turned out to be the factors associated with the practice of EBF.
