Summary:The present article is the result of the research project: Conflict and symbolic mediation in school-children from marginalized urban sectors. The case of Commune 20 in Cali, which presents the research process based on the daily experiences of the teachers at the “Jorge González Rubio” school. This research compiles the experiences of the teachers regarding the intervention strategies they use in conflict situations in the classroom and the manner they solve these through the creation of norms and agreements of coexistence with their students. Life experiences and testimonies are especially taken into account as a manner of perceiving reality from the perspective of the actors involved. This article also explores the role of the family in this process and the way the educational institution allows the family to participate in the process of coexistence.
