| Summary: | This articles establishes and standpoint on behalf of the scientific character of biography. The ar-gument is that such character is constructed based on the epistemological faults in Pierre Bourdieu’s harsh criticism on this genre, and the conceptual and methodological contributions made by Franco Ferrarrotti, François Dosse and Giovanni Levi. These later authors position biography at the core of innovative trends in historiography. The goal is to demonstrate both the epistemological and hermeneutical capacities of biography in the construction of social contexts for sociological and historical analysis. |
