Caracterización de la estructura del paisaje y su estado de conservación en las cuencas de cabecera de Medellín

The Main Ecological Structure (EEP) is the set of natural and semi-natural ecosystems including their environmental goods and services. The Medellín´s Zero order basins are part of this structure, and they are vulnerable to changes created by human activities, therefore they should be kept with vegetation cover, preferably forests because their ensure ecosystem protection. Then, it is necesary to continue zero order basins research in order to establish its current state and become one of the fundamentals in territorial planning of the city. This article is based on the biogeographic island theory of MacArthur and Wilso, the ArcGis Patch Analyst extension, and some environmental Colombian policy to identified a lack of connectivity and high fragmentation levels in zero basins. Finally it is proposed to join efforts by local institutions to conserve and ensure the continuity and quality of zero basins. Área: gestión territorial.-- Tema: ordenamiento territorial
