El desarrollo de dispositivos tecnológicos que permitan cada vez una mejor valoración de la carga física, tanto interna y externa, ha permitido poder realizar procesos de entrenamiento cada vez más exitosos y seguros. Objetivo Realizar una revisión sistemática sobre el uso de dispositivos tecnológicos para la determinación de la carga externa e interna en jugadores de fútbol profesionales en competencia. Método Ajustando todos los procedimientos metodológicos a los lineamientos de la metodología PRISMA, se realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura científica, en la cual se recurrió a la búsqueda de artículos científicos en bases de datos especializadas, escritos entre el 2015 y el 2020. Los términos de búsqueda se ajustaron a palabras clave como carga física, carga interna, carga externa, dispositivos electrónicos, y todo esto asociado a jugadores de fútbol de cualquier liga profesional. Posterior a la eliminación de registros duplicados, los documentos recuperados se revisaron, en su orden, a título y abstract y, posteriormente, a texto completo para realizar una valoración metodológica y así definir aquellos documentos que se incluirían en la revisión final. Resultados A través de la construcción de diversas ecuaciones de búsqueda ajustadas a las palabras clave anteriormente descritas, se recuperaron 1163, de los cuales 648 eran registros duplicados. Posteriormente, se excluyeron 377 registros adicionales por no ajustarse en su título o abstract al objetivo de la investigación. Finalmente, se eliminaron 84 registros adicionales luego de su revisión a texto completo por no ajustarse a los criterios de inclusión y exclusión definidos para la investigación, quedando con 54 documentos incluidos en la revisión final. De estos, el 44% de los documentos correspondieron al uso de sistemas de vídeo para la cuantificación de la carga externa; 35% lo hicieron con apoyo de dispositivos GPS; 7,4% basaron sus mediciones en una combinación entre GPS y acelerómetros; 5,6% utilizaron acelerómetros o dispositivos microondas y el 1,9% de los registros incluidos en la revisión final basaron sus mediciones en los datos arrojados por GPS y vídeo. De todos ellos, tan solo el 5% de los estudios reportó alguna valoración de variables de carga interna, siendo estas la frecuencia cardíaca, la percepción subjetiva del esfuerzo y una variable denominada índice metabólico. Conclusiones Los resultados de este estudio permiten concluir que existen diferentes herramientas tecnológicas que pueden ser utilizadas para la cuantificación de la carga externa en jugadores profesionales de fútbol durante partidos oficiales. No obstante, estas herramientas parecen no tener incluidas en sus mediciones determinaciones de variables de carga interna y, en aquellos trabajos que sí se reportan este tipo de variables, no se hace un análisis profundo acerca de los datos obtenidos.Introduction The correct quantification of the physical effort load imposed on soccer players is a key factor to determine for correct quantification of the training load. The development of technological devices that allow a better evaluation of the physical load, both internally and externally, has allowed training processes to be carried out more and more successfully and safely. Objective To carry out a systematic review of the use of technological devices for the determination of the external and internal load in professional soccer players in competition. Method Adjusting all the methodological procedures to the guidelines of the PRISMA methodology, a systematic review of the scientific literature was carried out, in which scientific articles were searched in specialized databases, written between 2015 and 2020. The search terms were adjusted to keywords such as physical load, internal load, external load, electronic devices, and all this associated with soccer players of any professional league. After the elimination of duplicate records, the recovered documents were reviewed, in its order, a title and abstract and, and then at the full text to perform a methodological assessment and thus define those documents that would be included in the final review. Results Through the construction of various search equations adjusted to the keywords described above, 1163 were recovered, of which 648 were duplicate records. Subsequently, 377 additional records were excluded because their title or abstract did not fit the objective of the research. Finally, 84 additional records were eliminated after their full-text review because they did not meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria defined for the research, leaving 54 documents included in the final review. Of these, 44% of the documents corresponded to the use of video systems for the quantification of external load; 35% did so with the support of GPS devices; 7.4% based their measurements on a combination of GPS and accelerometers; 5.6% used accelerometers or microwave devices and 1.9% of the records included in the final review based their measurements on the data provided by GPS and video. Of all of them, only 5% of the studies reported some assessment of internal load variables, these being heart rate, subjective perception of effort, and a variable called the metabolic rate. Conclusions The results of this study allowed us to conclude that there are different technological tools that can be used for the quantification of the external load in professional soccer players during official matches.
