It is used to control aggressive behaviors of patients. In many cases, it is done without the consent of relatives or the patient. Aims: To identify the ethical considerations of the nursing professional in decision-making in the face of the physical restriction of patients with mental illness. Methodology: We searched the databases: ProQuest, Scopus, Science Direct and PubMed. We used the keyword "restraint" and the Descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCs): Ethics "," Nursing "," Mental disorders ". The inclusion criteria were: articles published between 2010 and 2017, in the languages: English, Spanish and Portuguese and this information was analyzed in categories of analysis. Results: Three categories were identified: Ethical problems before the restriction method, Attitudes towards this method and Support mechanisms that they use.
