Summary: | After reviewing studies that have evaluated the effect of game-based learning on the development of critical thinking skills, few have been found that take Environmental Education and scientific literacy as the central axis of the proposals, and these result crucial for the learning of the 21st century learning. In this research, a quasi-experimental correlational study was applied, and quantitative data were obtained where the effect of a game on the development of critical thinking skills was assessed, such as analysis, argumentation, problem solving and decision making in 26 students of the grade 5 from a public school in Bogotá. The intervention with the game allowed a pronounced improvement in the critical thinking skills, where the inference, the solution of problems and the argumentation of processes, were the skills that evidenced a greater development. In the same way, cooperative work, autonomy, and participation were strengthened as a way of solving their questions generated by the game. It was proved that the learning based on games is an ideal strategy for the development of critical thinking skills from Environmental Education. It was achieved that on average, students will pass on argumentation skills of 12% in unsuccessful performance to 62.75% of students with a very successful performance, after the intervention with the game; in the analysis ability, it was achieved that 10% of the students who were in a very successful performance in the pre-test will pass to 48% in the post-test; with respect to the solution of problems, the average of 30% of students in a successful performance went from 65.33% of students who achieved a very successful performance; and in the decision making it was obtained that before the intervention only 19% of the students had a very successful performance, and in the post-test 58% achieved an evolution in this ability, verifying the effectiveness of this strategy in the development of critical thinking skills. |
