Description
Summary:The biohazard accidents are defined as professional accidents or occupational, which are related to exposures to a biological agent that can cause toxicity, infection or allergy. The main mechanisms of transmission that lead to trigger biological risks are found in body fluids such as blood, semen and vaginal secretions, cerebrospinal fluid, synovial, pleural or peritoneal and potentially infected tissues from an external source. In the biohazard politics of Colombia, the promotion and prevention programs do not respond to the due knowledge and monitoring that must be done in the face of an accident of this type, in addition to the fact that the most prevalent population in presenting these accidents are health area such as medicine, nursing and surgical instrumentation at the time of performing clinical practice, regardless of the range in which the person is, whether student, intern, resident or specialist. In accordance with the description above, a cross-sectional study was performed, which aims to describe the knowledge of the students of the Medicine and Nursing program of the "UDCA" who were studying from sixth to sixth semester in terms of accidents of biological risk and its methods of prevention and action, finding the following data that were collected through a survey entitled "Knowledge of the measures of prevention and action against accidents of biological risk in the medicine and nursing programs of the university of applied sciences and environmental studies during the first period of 2017 ", which contains 22 qualifying questions that were made to 254 students, determining the degree of knowledge of the population that was part of the study. It was evidenced that the students of Medicine and Nursing have knowledge about Biological Risk Accidents with a percentage of 55.2% and 58.9% respectively, nevertheless it was observed that the difference between the knowledge of the two programs was of 3.7% . Likewise, it was determined that the knowledge about the existence of the biological risk protocol; in sixth-semester students only 37.5% had knowledge about the biosafety protocol and 62.5% did not know the protocol, whereas in the following semesters; seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth 100% of the population had knowledge about the protocol, suggesting that with the progress of the semester increases knowledge about the existence of the protocol in case of a biohazard accident, this evidence that the levels of knowledge have to be deepened and promotion and prevention politics must be implemented in the area of health
