Conocimiento de métodos de prevención frente a infecciones de transmisión sexual en estudiantes de I a v semestre del programa de Medicina y el programa de Enfermeria de la Universidad de Ciencias Aplicadas y Ambientales, primer semestre de 2017

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are defined as a series of infections caused by different microorganisms such as sexually transmitted viruses, bacteria and parasites. The main STIs are syphilis, gonococcal infection, hepatitis B and HIV / AIDS infection. In Colombia's sexual and reproductive health policy, promotion and prevention programs do not respond to the needs of young people and the age of onset of sexual intercourse is earlier, and the adolescent population does not go to the Counseling centers which makes them more vulnerable to STI issues by ignoring their prevention methods; According to the above, a cross-sectional study was carried out, which aimed to describe the students' knowledge of the U.D.C.A Program of Medicine and Nursing. Who were studying I to V semester in terms of STIs and their prevention methods, thus finding the following data that were collected through a survey entitled knowledge of prevention methods in respect of sexual transmission infections in students of i to v semester of the medicine program and the nursing program of the universidad de cienciencias aplicadas y ambientales, first half of 2017, which contains 10 qualifying questions that were made to 244 students; And to determine the degree of knowledge in the population studied, evidencing that students of Medicine and Nursing have knowledge about STIs with a percentage of 50.75% and 62.28% respectively; However, it was observed that the difference between the knowledge of the two programs was 11.53% in favor of nursing. It was also determined that the most known STI is HIV / AIDS with 80% in Medicine and 64% in Nursing, and also evaluated the knowledge about the method of prevention of STIs with satisfactory results in which 100% of the Medical students know that the only method that prevents an STI is the condom, compared to 94% of nursing students who responded adequately; This evidences that the levels of knowledge of STIs and their prevention methods have to be deepened and health promotion and prevention policies must be carried out.
