Summary: | The patent ductus arteriosus is one of the most frequent cardiac pathologies in canines; it consists on the continuation of the existing canal in fetal life that communicates the pulmonary artery with the aorta in order to oxygenate the organism of the fetus. Its treatment consists of permanently closing the ductus arteriosus, by a surgical procedure. This article reports the case of a 3 month old German Sheperd female canine, which had as an only sign a heart murmur 5/6 evident at auscultation. The final diagnosis was made by echocardiography which revealed a patent ductus arteriosus. An analysis of clinical signs, pathophysiology, diagnostic plans, therapeutics and prognosis of the disease will be carried out. |
