Summary: | Conventional farming practices in high-mountain ecosystems, particularly in conservation areas, have resulted in social and ecological tensions. Some local farmers have carried out alternative practices in order to alleviate this conflict by supporting biodiversity and their own subsistence. This study aims at evaluating the effect of some farming practices on the diversity of Coleoptera families (Scarabaeidae - Carabidae - Staphylinidae) in ten farms located in a village called El Verjón, near Bogota’s Easter hills. In conclusion, analysis of data shows a greater number of species according to Brillouin Index, in farms where local vegetation is more popular, organic practices are more used, and manual tillage is usual. In addition to the categorization and analysis of farming practices and biodiversity, the study focuses on pointing that most of farmers consider practices such as preserving local vegetation, using organic fertilizers, having different types of crops and their rotation, are important to sustain biodiversity |
