Estrategias de conservación para disminuir el conflicto ganadero – jaguar (Panthera onca) en la cuenca de la ciénaga de Barbacoas, Magdalena Medio Antioqueño, Colombia.

In the Ciénaga de Barbacoas basin, there is a conflict that is already marked between jaguars and the cattle guild, as a result of the increase in the demand for more and more extensive areas, used among other activities, for extensive livestock and agriculture; which in the last, has caused that the jaguar enters to depredate domestic animals, cattle, in this specific case; and the cattlemen proceed to hunt him for retaliation. With this scenario, the general objective is to identify the conservation alternatives that can be applied to the species and its habitat, based on the spatial relationship between the jaguar and the cattle ranchers; this, through first, the description of the attitudes presented by the herdsmen with respect to the presence of the jaguar, through the action research methodology, materialized with the development of the social survey in the field; second, the spatial analysis of habitat availability of the species in the area, through the modeling of the current habitat quality (Habitat Quality: Invest) and the predictive distribution of the species (Maxent); and thirdly, the evaluation with the farmers, of the implementation of strategies that reduce the conflict with the jaguar, by proposing strategies from both positions: perception and availability of habitat. Through the social survey, it was found that despite the fact that the conflict is at an advanced stage, cattle ranchers are reluctant to support strategies that lead to the reduction of the same, a positive point that was started; it was determined that although there are important areas considered as having a high quality relative to the habitat of the jaguar, the threats presented by them are materialized in the predictive model of distribution of the species; it is finally, as from the above, it is possible to establish conservation strategies for both the habitat and the species, taking into account as the basis, the perception of the target population and on the other hand, the reality in the territory, in the availability of habitat of the species.
