Description
Summary:The oilpalmarrivedinColombiabythe1940’s,withthe Dura type as planting material. Breeding-crossesgenerated progenies that were established in the differentoil palm growing regions of the country. However, after several decades, it has been recognized thattheuseofthesegenotypescouldhavebeenbroader. In consequence, Cenipalma established researchactivities to identify the maximum possible numberofsuchDuramaterialand, ontheresultingpalms, tocarryoutmolecularevaluationsinordertodeterminethe genetic variability of these populations and therelationshipamongindividuals.Thisinformationwillbeusefulinordertorenewoilpalmpopulationsandtousesomeofthesematerialsasparentallinesincontrolledcrosses.Thus,inthispaper,resultsarereportedonthemolecular characterization, using microsatellite-PCR-basedtechnique,of80Dura-typeoilpalmindividuals,from13populations.Resultsshowthat,basedontheirgeneticsimilarity,thesepopulationscanbeclassifiedintotwomajorgroupsanditispossibletorecover,inaconsiderableway,originaloilpalmpopulationsbyusing the currently identified materials. In addition, a higher interpopulation genetic variability than intrapopulation variation was found.
