Description
Summary:Around the world and in Colombia the in vitro cattle embryo production has increased in the last years. The embryo transfer of in vitro produced embryos is mainly realized with fresh embryos, due to the possible injuries induced during the cryopreservation process. Vitrification is a tool applied in assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) and it is used as an alternative for germplasm cryopreservation (sperm, oocytes and embryos) in human and veterinary medicine. Despite major efforts focused on the development of the technique, its commercial application is scarce in the embryo production industry and it is employed mainly in research. In this review, different aspects involved in the in vitro embryo vitrification technique, such as protocols, main advantages, limitations and some results, are discussed.
