Summary: | Along the boundary line between the towns of Gonzalez Catan and Virrey del Pino (La Matanza District), there has been a substantial increase of the deterioration of the urban environment, a situation made clearly evident by the poor life conditions of their inhabitants. In this sense, the impoverishment has been due on the one hand to the installation, in the late 1970s, of the intergovernmental organism CEAMSE and, on the other, to the emergence of private cemeteries on Scarlatti Avenue as a result of real estate speculation during the 1990s. Hence the poor quality of life, especially in the neighborhood known as Nicol (an acronym meaning “no school, no bus”) and the inhabitants of the area selected suffer the vicissitudes of urban dysfunction. The aim of this paper is to analyze to what extent the deterioration in the quality of life of one of the most neglected areas in the District has been produced by atmospheric pollution, flooding or lack of services, among other causes. The methodologies applied are based on the analysis of secondary sources and qualitative strategies, such as the examination de visu of land use in order to produce a survey at micro-local scale and a landscape classification grid, among other actions. |
