Description
Summary:A prototype film-type polymeric system was developed using the pullulan as a support in combination with other polymers such as sodium alginate, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and gelatin in order to achieve the ideal physical and mechanical properties to transport an active mixture, such as lyophilized extract of Calendula officinalis. The polymeric film also presented an important characteristic such as mucoadhesion. The active mixture was used in three different concentrations, showing no significant variation in the physical and mechanical properties of the films produced. Finally, the release of the active mixture was determined, using quercetin as a tracer and water adjusted to a pH of 6.82 and a temperature of 36 ± 1⁰C as the release medium. When comparing the release profiles of the active mixture, it was observed that the films with equal proportions of gelatine and pullulan showed the best properties of elasticity, flexibility, swelling capacity, as well as a high degree of adhesiveness and mucoadhesion. These allowed a release of the active substance incorporated into the extract of Calendula officinalis which allows them to become a delivery system of a phytotherapeutic product
