Summary: | A seven- year- old male canine, mix breed and urban, was taken to the veterinary clinic of the Universidad de Ciencias Aplicadas y Ambientales –U.D.C.A- located in Bogotá, Colombia, presenting a loss of movements in his pelvic limbs and a 12 hours urinary retention. When the patient was received, he was treated with bladder catheterization for fully emptying the bladder. In addition to this, It was proposed as differential diagnosis Intervertebral Disk Disease type I or Hansen I (extrusion) and type II or Hansen II (protrusion) and also Fibrocartilaginous Embolic Myelopathy. A magnetic resonance was performed in order to support the diagnosis of Hansen Type I. With the diagnosis confirmed, a thoracolumbar hemilaminectomy was executed. After some days of hospitalization, the canine was discharged in a good condition. The dog owners were advised to continue with the physiotherapy and the veterinary appointments. By April, the seven- year-old-canine had recovered the sphincter control and was able to walk. |
