Description
Summary:The main goal of the First Earth Summit on Human Environment held by the United Nations (UN) in Stockholm-Sweden (1972) was to evaluate global environmental issues due to the increase of air and water sources pollution and the environmental deterioration of ecosystems, among other factors. Such situation led the member states to reflect on those issues and initiate actions regarding the environmental consequences of overexploita-tion of renewable and non-renewable natural resources, as well as the processes of production, transformation and consumption of the goods and services required to meet the needs of the population. What has been stated above marked the turning point needed to deepen the research on the problems and consequences of global warming. The objective of this article is to ponder about urban mobility as an environmental problem with reference to its current paradigms and contribute to the mitigation of the environmental impacts of climate change through the implementation of different courses of action, such as public policies and environmental guidelines in order to achieve the sustainable mobility aimed at.
