Summary: | Eating habits, nutritional status and the level of physical activity not only affect health in the present but also determine the risk of contracting chronic diseases related to food in the future. The purpose of this study was to describe the lifestyles that influence the nutritional status of children between 5 and 10 years of the first and fifth grades of the Santo Tomas de Aquino Technical Institute in Duitama Boyacá. The study was a descriptive design of transversal type, the study population consisted of 190 children, with the informed consent of the parents. Assessment of eating habits, level of physical activity and nutritional status by BMI was carried out, applying a questionnaire and taking anthropometric measurements. The results showed that of the total student population surveyed in relation to nutritional status and eating habits it is evident that men with an adequate weight consume fruit in 35% and women with an appropriate weight in 58%. At the level of physical activity evaluated by the IPAQ questionnaire, 50.7% of the first and fifth grade students have irregular physical activity. It is striking that as the age progresses, the nutritional status varies between the sexes, finding that overweight decreases in children aged between 9 and 10 years (27%) and increases the percentage of girls of the same age range with ideal weight for your size (63%). These results are related to the eating habits and physical activity practiced by children according to the school environment. |
