Description
Summary:Among the health problems presented by livestock, external parasites or ectoparasites occupy an important place, since they cause losses in production systems (Suarez et al., 2006). Strategies for the control of parasites are generally based on currently available antiparasitics (Stromberg & Gasbarre, 2006). Antiparasitic agents are used indiscriminately, either due to lack of knowledge in their management or due to the lack of diagnostic support on the type and level of parasitic load, a situation that can lead to erroneous dosing (Romero et al., 2007). Ivermectin is the antiparasitic molecule most used in veterinary medicine (Rodríguez, 2010). This tends to accumulate in fatty tissue and the highest concentrations are found in the liver (Canga et al., 2009), of this, it should be noted the importance of this organ in various processes of elimination of foreign substances, being a filter that must exceed the compounds are absorbed (Quesada, 2012). Although the impact on public health of waste in the meat product is very well known, at national level its effect on the liver parenchyma has not been described, therefore, this work aims to provide support for the research of this drug and its histopathological impact on the liver of bovines. It should be noted that this study is framed within a macroproject that sought to determine the residuality of ivermectin in the liver of bovines. In the results, 103 samples were analyzed where 82 did not present residues for ivermectin, and 21 samples were positive. Despite observing statistically significant differences between certain variables, it can not be concluded that the presence of ivermectin residues is the only factor that triggers this injury. It is recommended to conduct research under controlled conditions in order to better clarify the findings of this study
