Summary:The study had as its main purpose to characterize the psychologist´s occupational activity in the public health area in the Department of Huila. Using the technique of focus groups, fifty-nine labor activities developed in the exercise in the area were identified. Additionally, in a sample of 35 psychologists, by applying the questionnaire MRCESP, some labor issues and the self-evaluation of fifty-six Core Competencies in Public Health (CESP) grouped into six domains were identified. Their self-evaluation identifies CESP as increased exercise the most related with their training: Health promotion and social participation, public health surveillance and analysis of the health situation. In a minor measure exercise the CESP related to the incidence of taking decisions, design and implementation of public policies. Some failures are evident in planning of management processes of Human Talent in Health.
