Since the mid-forties the dynamics of the city changes, the foundation of large firms, financed with the support of investors belonging to the elite groups of the city, those who participate and guide all decisions concerning economic and social development of the city, is passed to a model of individual and popular character, based on the emergence of small family businesses, funded from savings and income from employment. In this process themanufacturing activity plays a dynamic role for the entire sector generating high volume of employment and stimulating other industrial and commercial activities. In the article a difference is established, by the testimony of some leading businessmen, in three modalities in the emergence of apparel manufacturing firms in Pereira.Este artículo aborda un aspecto del desarrollo empresarial de Pereira entre los años cincuenta y sesenta, en particular se estudia el surgimiento y consolidación de un modelo de desarrollo industrial a través de la fundación de micros y pequeñas empresas familiares. Desde mediados de los años cuarenta cambia la dinámica de la ciudad, de la fundación de empresas grandes, financiadas con el aporte de inversionistas pertenecientes al grupo élite de la ciudad, quienes participan y orientan todas las decisiones concernientes al desenvolvimiento económico y social de la ciudad, se pasa a un modelo de carácter individual y popular, basado en el surgimiento de pequeñas empresas familiares, financiadas con los ahorros y rentas del trabajo asalariado. En este proceso la actividad confeccionista cumple un rol dinamizador para todo el sector manufacturero al generar alto volumen de empleo y dinamizar otras actividades comerciales e industriales.
