Facultad de Ciencias Humanas, Sociales y de la Educación, Pereira, 2009La población de adultos mayores y ancianos aumenta constantemente y con ello aumenta la prevalencia de entidades como depresión y ECV. Se ha planteado que la depresión en los adultos mayores y ancianos tiene características específicas abriendo la posibilidad de plantear subtipos diagnósticos diferentes a los de la depresión en adultos jóvenes. La depresión vascular podría ser uno de dichos subtipos, esta hipótesis plantea que la ECV podría predisponer, precipitar o perpetuar un síndrome depresivo en adultos mayores. El objetivo de este artículo es realizar la caracterización clínica de la depresión vascular a partir de la revisión de antecedentes investigativos. /Abstract: The elderly population is steadily increasing and the elderly and thereby increases the prevalence of entities such as depression and CVD. It has been suggested that depression in older adults and the elderly have specific characteristics, opening the possibility of bringing the different diagnostic subtypes of depression in young adults. The vascular depression may be one of these subtypes, this hypothesis suggests that CVD may predispose, precipitate or perpetuate a depressive syndrome in older adults.
