Description
Summary:This article aims to reveal some results obtainedfrom the research conducted on social psychology, PoliticalSocialization, and Psychosocial Dynamics. The objectiveis to recognize the ideological support and legitimacy forintimate partner violence, according to some women reports. The idea is also to analyze the way some women considerthe phenomenon of intimate partner violence as somethingthat has been naturalized and taken for granted “normal” aspart of privacy at home. The research was developed takinginto account the qualitative approach, interviews with fi vewomen were conducted, using the strategy of open coding, axial and selective fundament Theory. Three new categorieswere analyzed, the fi rst one related to gender roles, bothmale and female, and the possible positions that are assumedwhen plying those roles, which are socially and culturallyendorsed. The second section analyzes the situations ofviolence and the status of “victim” which threatens thewelfare and dignity of those women, placing them in a“lower” position related to their partners. Regarding thethird category, it was established that the interviewedwomen, even though they have social elements that allowthem to legitimize violence against them, have individualreasons for deciding to continue or not with the relation, orin order to accept and naturalize the gender differences andtheir situation in general.
