As a result, it is important for the said companiesto address these problems to ensure that the former remain competitive in light ofrecent free trade agreements.El artículo presenta los resultados de una investigación orientada a determinar el grado de infraestructura logística, conocimiento y estado de los procesos de importación–exportación en las empresas más representativas del sector metalmecánico de Pereira y Dosquebradas. La metodología cualitativa utilizada resalta las técnicas de entrevista a profundidad, encuesta y análisis de contenido que permiten develar como resultado del estudio, la falta de profundidad en el manejo de información técnica del comercio exterior y los bajos niveles de infraestructura para garantizar la competitividad de las empresas pertenecientes al sector en consideración a la perspectiva de los acuerdos internacionales.
