Summary:This article addresses the issue of participatory mapping as a tool for the collection of information related to the citizen and the urban environment, in this way, a theoretical review of the subject, which relies methodological references in three cases in Cordoba, Paris and Colombia, which are articulated to the review of mapping experience in Xisqua Group Research at the University of Boyaca. The theoretical framework addressed the implementation of initiatives related to processes of participatory mapping allow emphasize that mapping is an opportunity for making visible urban imaginary and the relationship between citizens and the city, it is also an opportunity to recognize the reality from another perspective. It is a methodological process from the tools provided by communication and design that allows a contribution to the formation of the territory image.
